"It is difficult for men of high office to avoid the malady of self-delusion. They are always surrounded by worshipers. They are constantly, and for the most part sincerely, assured of their greatness." -President Calvin Coolidge
Welcome to the Meeks for Midland Park Education website. My name is John J. Meeks Jr. and I am running for the Midland Park Board of Education against three heavily entrenched incumbents.
As the proverbial Paul Revere of education in Midland Park, I hope to get my message out in time to prevent the disaster that lies ahead if we continue to follow the path of the current board of education. As I campaign, I meet neighbors who love Midland Park, but are worried about being taxed out of their homes due to the board's multimillion dollar referendums. I speak with teachers who are frustrated, spending more time attempting to implement these so called Common Core Standards than actually teaching our students. I meet parents who want to pursue a send -receive relationship with another school district. Unfortunately, our board of education would rather spend money appealing a lawsuit regarding their lack of transparency, than spend it on conducting a send-receive study, which may benefit our students. I will tackle these issues. I will bring a diversity of thought to the Board of Education that it so desperately needs.
So please, do your homework, peruse this site, and make a difference, vote for John J. Meeks, Jr. for the Midland Park Board of Education on April 23rd.
The Common Core is a one size fits all approach to education. It was created by the National Governors Association, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and liberal think tank Achieve Inc.Its implementation is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. None of these organizations is accountable to students, teachers, parents or taxpayers.
Problems With The Common Core:
Why would the Midland Park Board of Education adopt these subpar, untested, unproven standards? Follow the money. The Feds dangled some Race To the Top grant money and some exemptions from the Bush era No Child Left Behind law to entice school boards like ours. They took the bait, and now we're on the hook to fully fund these so called standards.
Opposition to the Common Core crosses party lines. In September of 2013, the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders unanimously, in bi-partisan fashion, passed a resolution condemning the Common Core Standards. Please click here to read their resolution.
